About The SCBA
The Sandy Creek Baptist Association was organized in 1758, largely because of the efforts of Shubal Stearns. In that first meeting three churches were present: Sandy Creek, Abbott's Creek, and Deep River. By 1770, there were 42 churches and our territory stretched from the Potomac River to Augusta, Georgia, and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River. For convenience sake, in 1770, the association divided into three distinct bodies, the General Association of Virginia, the Sandy Creek in North Carolina, and the Congaree in South Carolina. We are the third oldest association in the United States. Only Charleston and Philadelphia are older.
Today, we are 49 Southern Baptist churches and missions, located in the central part of North Carolina. We include churches in Alamance, Chatham, and Lee Counties. We are committed to working together in sharing Jesus Christ with our communities, state, nation, and world. We offer opportunities for training, fellowship, missions, evangelism, and more for all ages.
Our theme for this year is "Find It Here." Our Scripture is from John 1:39, "He (Jesus) said to them, 'Come, and you will see.'" When we look around us, we see that almost 5.5 million people in North Carolina are lost and looking for something to give them Hope. Finding Hope was also a major theme in the last presedential elections. As Christians, we believe that true Hope is found in Jesus Christ, and we want people to know where they can find what they are looking for. Invite them to come to church with you. Tell them that they can "Find it here!"
You are welcomed to join with one of our churches and experience the life of following Jesus.
Our associational missionary is the Rev. Gordon West. Gordon was a pastor for 23 years before beginning his service in our association. He has been with us since April 2001.
Our Administrative Assistant is Mrs. Nancy Evans. Nancy has been with the association since February 2003.
